Lawn Master Racing
In 2011, Lawn Master started lawn mower racing. Tim Parker, owner of the depot in Sussex, started speaking with an existing team that had been competing in the lawn mower racing series for over 5 years.
Tim quickly established a main sponsor role for Lawn Master, which resulted in the team becoming known as Lawn Master Racing.
Lawn mower racing is a form of motor sport, in which competitors race modified lawn mowers, usually of the ride-on or self-propelled variety. The original mower engines are retained, but the blades are removed for safety. The sport attracts all ages, and is usually entered into with a spirit of fun rather than extreme competitiveness, though many participants do take it seriously.
The sport was independently invented in 1973 in The Cricketers Arms public house in Wisborough Green, close to the town of Horsham in West Sussex. It was created by a group of young men, who were bemoaning the prohibitive costs of getting involved in any kind of motor sport.
They formed the British Lawn Mower Racing Association, and shortly afterwards, the North West Lawn Mower Racing Association.
Winners of the coveted 12 hour race, have included the likes of Derek Bell and Oliver Reed (need we say more!).
The pictures below are from the 2011 twelve-hour race in September. The Lawn Master machine proved to be very quick at the start, however the bumpy track resulted in problems later on. Unfortunately, at 3am it was withdrawn.
Updates on future events and results will be posted here. In the meantime enjoy the photos.
