Worms
There are approximately 16 species of earthworms likely to be found in lawns across Britain, which all vary in size and colour. They all contribute to creating a high quality soil structure and fertility.
Unfortunately however, when casting worms start to leave small deposits of soil on the surface of your lawn, they need to be dealt with immediately.
Earthworms can be active throughout the whole year, but are most active between February and April. They occur in most soils types, but are scarce in soils that are extremely acidic or prone to water-logging. Earthworms eat decaying plant material but do not damage growing plants.
The casting process is material that has passed through the worm. It is mixed, digested and then excreted back on top of the lawn.
Worm casts can cause an uneven lawn surface, and this usually results in people carrying mud from the lawn onto their feet, and then onto paths.
Lawn Master can control the nuisance of worm casts by driving them lower into the soil with a special application. Alternatively, we can completely remove them from the area if preferred.
